Invitation To Tender: Verification and Validation (V&V)
Introduction
This document has been produced as a result of the discussions held
by the NAFEMS Analysis Management Working Group (AMWG) with respect
to Verification and Validation (V&V) deliverables. The
AMWG has conducted long discussions with respect to the possible
deliverables relating to V&V, and how best to approach
production. As the two topics are closely related there is a
case for writing documents that encompass both subjects.
However, discussion has shown that this would be a complex task;
and that it would not necessarily be successful. In order to
simplify the tasks it has been decided to break the work down by
subject; and to test the market with documents on one of the topics
alone.
Since validation is the most open of the two topics, it has been
decided to work on the validation documentation first. It is
important to recognise that the discussions in this paper are
expected to be totally technology independent; i.e. equally valid
for all engineering simulation environments. The paper aims
to identify the structure of a series of documents firstly aimed at
validation of engineering analysis/simulation. There will be
a logical, though not necessarily a direct reflection of the
validation documentation to verification; leading to the production
of complementary verification documents. There may be a case
for merging the topics at a later revision.
This first validation deliverable set has been broken into three
separate tasks for the purposes of getting tenders for the work:
- A review of the terms Verification and Validation;
- The production of a high level Why Do style document to identify
the reasons for and advantages of validation; and
- A validation primer to discuss the generic methods available for
validation
These are reflected in three NAFEMS tender documents, this
discussion paper forms the necessary background information for
Parts 2 and 3. The separate Invitation to Tender (ITT)
documents should be referenced in submitting tenders to the NAFEMS
office. Note:
There will be an examination of both proposals for the entire
task, and proposals for individual items.
