Ansys partners with Liebherr to strengthen digital strategy

Ansys has announced a key partnership with European manufacturing giant Liebherr to support the company’s digital transformation through advanced simulation technology.

The collaboration marks a continuation of Liebherr’s 35-year relationship with Ansys and will see the deployment of cutting-edge virtual modelling tools to enhance the development of Liebherr’s products.

The simulation capabilities provided by Ansys allow Liebherr to create highly detailed virtual models that encompass all physical and functional aspects of its products.

This includes mechanical design, fluid dynamics, electronics, live simulation, and even acoustics. The multiphysics capabilities of Ansys technology are instrumental in supporting Liebherr’s model-based enterprise approach, enabling seamless data exchange across the entire product lifecycle.

A key focus of this partnership is Liebherr-Aerospace and Transportation SAS, one of the largest divisions within the Liebherr Group, with key sites in Lindenberg, Germany, and Toulouse, France.

The Aerospace division has already embarked on a significant digital transformation programme, aimed at becoming a data-centric operation.

By implementing digital continuity across product development and efficient data exchange with customers and suppliers, the company aims to maintain its competitive edge in the aerospace sector.

Ansys’ tools will be supported by CADFEM Germany GmbH, an Ansys Apex Channel Partner, which will provide user training, support, and consulting services to all Liebherr sites.

The resource-sharing strategy in place helps ensure a smooth adoption of these technologies, allowing the company to reduce barriers and streamline its engineering processes.

“Liebherr-Aerospace develops products consistently and completely digitally,” said Elko Van Balen and Olivier Banessy, who together lead the model-based enterprise development at Liebherr-Aerospace and Transportation. “The implementation of the model-based approach behind this confirms that the right partners have been chosen.”

“Access to Ansys software alleviates challenges related to delivering best-in-class solutions that specifically support our products and technologies in a timely manner,” said Dr. Ling Li, PLM innovation services simulation consultant at Liebherr.

“We recognise that expertise is being established at all locations and that new simulation topics are being tested as well. Even our designers can run live simulations using Ansys software, which frees up our dedicated simulation engineers and reduces our reliance on external resources.
