NAFEMS Workshop discusses Benefits and Barriers

Benefits and Barriers to SimulationThe NAFEMS Workshop, “The Business Benefits of Simulation” was held in Lake Bluff, Illinois on November 17th 2005. More than 60 delegates attended this workshop, which was jointly organised with IMPACT Engineering. Presentations came primarily from industry, demonstrating many different stages in simulation use, from companies who were just beginning to implement analysis, to organisations who had been seeing a healthy return on their analysis investment for many years.

In a preworkshop survey, delegates cited management reluctance and insufficient time as the major roadblocks to successful FEA implementation within their organisations. These topics were addressed throughout the workshop in the presentations and the questions & answer sessions throughout the day, which provided an excellent forum for discussion, and served to ensure a high level of interaction throughout the day.

Our special thanks are due to Vince Adams at IMPACT for his invaluable assistance in the organisation and promotion of the event. It was agreed that the event should be repeated in the coming years – the overall concensus being that a biannual meeting would be most popular. Plans are currently being drawn up for these future meetings, and will be announced shortly.

In 2006, NAFEMS North America plan to hold several workshops of this kind in locations throughout the US and Canada. If you would like to be involved in NAFEMS North America, or have a particular location you feel would be suited to these workshops, please get in touch
