The NAFEMS Computational Structural Mechanics Working Group (CSM-WG) wishes to commission a new document with the suggested title “How to model composite materials”. The booklet will form part of the existing “How to…” series of documents.
The book should focus on the methodologies employed in this area of simulation and existing needs, for example, materials testing, and future trends, including, for instance, probabilistic considerations and uncertainty. It is expected that the methodologies will be illustrated by examples of the use of, and problems solved, using the identified technology. It is also expected that the document will describe how, and why, the methodologies can integrate with FEA tools.
Intended Readership
The document should be applicable to all those who are carrying out engineering analysis and wish to learn about this area of simulation technology. The document should also be applicable to Project Managers overseeing the use of these analyses.
The target readership of this document is design engineers who are using a finite element simulation to analyse composite structures and components. It should be assumed that these design engineers are not familiar with finite element theory and this document should, amongst other topics, provide them with a non-mathematical introduction to those aspects of theory that are necessary to run these programs correctly. (Reference should be made to other NAFEMS documentation, where possible, for the mathematical details.)
Book outline
(It should be noted that the outline given below is that suggested by the CSM-WG but prospective authors may suggest changes based on their own experience.)
