These are typical questions asked in recent NAFEMS events. Wouldn't it be great if we could take a snapshot of the type of computing platform we're using today and also predict where we will be in the next 5 years?
The future is important. In the next 5 years, the largest supercomputer will have more than 1 billion-way parallelism. A Petaflop system (currently 100,000 cores) may cost as little as $150K in 2018. Is our community ready to take advantage of this step change in capability?
In collaboration with the "European Exascale Software Initiative" (
www.eesi-project.eu), the
NAFEMS HPC Working Group have put together a short survey to find out.
Even if you do not use High Performance Computing, please do find time to fill in the survey. Questions are asked about all computing platforms used for engineering simulation.
