Deep dive into injection molding science

The seminar will delve into the intricate phenomena associated with the injection molding process. It will place a significant emphasis on comprehending the issues related to parts (such as appearance, shrinkage, warpage, weld lines, burns, etc.), and how these issues correlate with the properties of materials (whether amorphous, semi-crystalline, filled, or unfilled) and the molding process itself.

The seminar will not fit the needs of beginners in the field.

Where we'll meet

The seminar is scheduled for the 5th and 6th of September 2024 at the Hotel Crown Piast in Kraków, Poland. The entrance fee does not include the cost of accommodation. Meals and coffee breaks are included.

What we'll learn

  • Basic polymer thermal and rheological behaviour
  • Effect of pressure on polymer properties
  • The flow process in injection molding
  • Part geometry and flow pattern
  • Compressibility, phase change and PVT data
  • What is crystallinity and how does it affect processing
  • The packing phase: key to the dimensional quality of the part
  • Effective part, mould and process design for proper cavity packing
  • Understanding the shrinkage build-up
  • Part warpage mechanisms: designing for minimum warpage, according to material properties and part shape
  • Warpage: the special case of fibre filled materials
  • The concept of residual stresses: the compromise with warpage

Host – Vito Leo

Dr. Prof. Vito LEO is a physicist by training, and has been working for about 42 years in the field of Polymer Processing and Physics. He used to work for the largest chemical company in Belgium providing the biggest portfolio of engineering polymers and compounds in this Industry. He also teached a second Master’s course at ULB/VUB (Brussels University), to students of the Engineering Faculty for close to 20 years.

The entrance fee is €700 (paid in advance). For inquiries, please address your questions to the event organizer Dr. Przemysław Narowski.
