Looking into the future is a tricky business and depends pretty much on the period you are looking at (next year, 10 years, 20 years or more). A crystal ball to divine the future of simulation engineering is not a feasible option. We normally extrapolate from current knowledge and findings into the future. When I was a young boy forecasts for the future included driving nuclear fuelled cars access to abundant energy from nuclear powerplants, and extensive travel through outer space. As we know none of this has happened. At the same time nobody forecast the things that have happened, the internet, communication networks, big data processing and much more.
