This article featured in the July 2018 edition of benchmark "Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning - Believe the Hype?"
The exponential growth in computing power, as described by Moore’s Law, has driven innovations and economic development for more than 50 years and recently, we have seen considerably renewed interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI), as a direct result of the significant advances in Machine Learning (ML). This is enabling computers to analyse huge amounts of data and draw their own conclusions, dynamically and continuously. By applying the learned knowledge, it is possible to make predictions and recommendations, including the advanced identification of features, so now it is possible to create intelligent learning applications across many vertical sectors.
