This paper on "Finite Element Introduction in Small Enterprises" was presented at the NAFEMS World Congress on The Evolution of Product Simulation From Established Methods to Virtual Testing & Prototyping - 24-28 April 2001, The Grand Hotel, Lake Como, Italy.
In this article the project 'handbook for efficient use of finite elements in product development and machine design' is described. The project is funded by the Flemish government and a group of companies. It tries to facilitate the use of finite element analysis in small and medium sized enterprises. A software selection procedure, a handbook with practical advice based on graphs and tables, a guide with real life examples described in detail, are now available. Industry can benefit from the project results by participating in a training program.
