This paper on "A Unified FE Solution Algorithm for the Solution a Wide Range of Engineering Problems" was presented at the NAFEMS World Congress on The Evolution of Product Simulation From Established Methods to Virtual Testing & Prototyping - 24-28 April 2001, The Grand Hotel, Lake Como, Italy.
This paper presents a FE solution algorithm which allows to solve a wide range of time (in)dependent Continuum Mechanics (non-)linear problems. In particular, this algorithm has been successfully applied for the solution of the following five basic problems of engineering interest: the field equation, the Cauchy equilibrium equations for solid and structural problems, the coupled solid-fluid Biot equilibrium equations for soils, the Navier-Stokes equations for fluid-dynamics problems.
The natural extension is to combine these basic problems for the solution of a wide range of Coupled Problems. Other important aspects of the proposed formulation is the possibility to fully exploit the computational potentiality offered by the new generation of parallel and vectorial computer hardware architecture.
