This paper on "Implementation and Development of a FE System on Indigenous Workstation" was presented at the International Conference on Quality Assurance and Standards in Finite Element Analysis - 22-25 May 1989, Stratford-upon-Avon, England.
First part of this paper deals with the experience of implementation of a Finite Element Analysis System on a MC 68020/68030 based graphics workstation under UNIX operating system. The major issues involved are, organization of the software for microcomputer environment and flexibility of the system for in-house, desk-top applications. Second part of the paper deals with design and development of graphics pre and post processor for the FE system. Various strategies implemented for ease of data preparation, model editing and model integrity checks are discussed. Implementation of a postprocessor is also discussed here. Finally, role of the indigenous software on the indigenous hardware and scope of the future developments in the context of the Indian market place is discussed.
