Purpose of Paper

The purpose of this paper is to discuss some of the critical technical and human interface issues involved in using a computer for engineering calculations that involve an engineering database management system (EDBMS). In particular, the area of finite element analysis (FEA) will be discussed as one of the most important areas that an EDBMS must support effectively.
