Elasto-Plastic Cap-Model for Cohesive-Frictional Materials

This paper on "Elasto-Plastic Cap-Model for Cohesive-Frictional Materials" was presented at the NAFEMS World Congress on Design, Simulation & Optimisation: Reliability & Applicability of Computational Methods - 9-11 April 1997, Stuttgart, Germany.

Summary

The evaluation of a realistic material model is crucial for any numerical analysis. The elasto-plastic model presented in this paper is assigned for the analysis of soil-structure interaction problems, as well as for the analysis of concrete, reinforced-concrete and masonry structures. In all these issues we have to do with seemingly completely different, yet in the matter of fact similar materials. Sandler et al. called them "geological media" and now the term "cohesive-frictional materials" often is in use. Such various media as soil, concrete and masonry can be counted to the common group due to their similar, hydrostatic pressure dependent failure criterion.
The initial version of this model was developed by Majewski in [1] and [2], and it's application to the analysis of masonry structures by Majewski et al. [3], [4]. Numerous tests and calculations of different structural problems proved its' usefulness, but also formed the basis for the significant modification and improvement. The current state of the model will be presented in the paper and some significantly various samples will illustrate its' success.
