Abstract

This paper presents the results compiled during a benchmark exercise performed in the framework of the European Network "ALERT Geomaterials". The benchmark aims at comparing distinct numerical strategies when saturated and unsaturated flow conditions coexist in a Boundary Value problem. The difficulties posed by this situation are discussed and the solutions proposed by the participants critically reviewed.
