Finite Element Approach Study to Backward Extrusion of Diving Container

This paper on "Finite Element Approach Study to Backward Extrusion of Diving Container" was presented at the NAFEMS World Congress on Effective Engineering Analysis - 25-28 April 1999, Newport, Rhode Island, USA.

Abstract

The research of the axisymmetric backward extension process of the first stage of diving container is presented in the paper. The general principles in the development of metal forming processes and process for semifinished product in particularly are briefly discussed. Axisymmetric extrusion is chosen as an example for finite element modelling. This is carried out after making simplifying assumption of the deformation geometry. The preliminary investigation of the simple backward extrusion of lead billet using various finite elements is made as a preparation for real process, where lead can be taken into account as a rigid-ideal plastic material. The investigation on real material was performed on Al-Mg3.
