First, a brief introduction to the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) will be given. The main part of the presentation will address several aspects and examples related to modelling & simulation activities in the aerostructures domain that are performed to support the showing of compliance to airworthiness requirements. Topics such as test versus analysis, verification, validation, and errors & uncertainties will be discussed, all of which are related to achieving the necessary level of credibility when performing simulations.
Mr. Wim Doeland (MSc) is a graduate from the Technical University Delft, Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, and joined the Civil Aviation Authority of the Netherlands in 1990. Fifteen years later in 2005 he joined the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in Cologne, where he now holds the position of Senior Structures Expert.
Mr. Wim Doeland has over 30 years of experience as a Structures Expert, being involved in many international aircraft certification programs and rulemaking activities, as well as company approvals and research programs. In his current position he is responsible within EASA for co-ordinating all Structures activities related to CS-25 Large Aeroplanes, including subjects such as static strength, fatigue & damage tolerance, loads, aeroelasticity, impact dynamics and crashworthiness.
He is also the author of the EASA Certification Memorandum CM-S-014 “Modelling & Simulation – CS-25 Structural Certification Specifications”, addressing several aspects related to achieving the necessary level of credibility for modelling & simulation activities.
