Companies aim to offer products and services whose performances are always higher and more sophisticated in order to meet the desires of their customers. This becomes possible mainly by the growing contribution of electronics. Then, products are made of Multiphysics, controller and communication. So, they become Cyber-physical systems. The counterpart is a significant increase in their complexity which makes their development and validation always more difficult and expensive.
Classically, numerical modelling and simulation remains a strong lever to support these stakes, but with particular issues: mainly architectural management, model management, model transfers, model identification, traceability, etc. On these questions, methods, tools and processes are emerging and their implementation makes it possible to accelerate the availability of complex simulation results in the different contexts of the projects: in phase of design for optimising products and in validation phase for reducing the number of physical tests.
Eric Landel is an expert in system modelling and simulation, particularly in the automotive industry, having played a leading role in the numerical modelling and simulation department at Renault for many years. He started his career journey by being awarded his diploma by the Ecole Central of Nantes, producing his thesis on naval hydrodynamics.
After graduation, he joined Principia R&D (scientific Engineering company), where he developed numerous original methods for modelling in the fields of acoustics, hydrodynamics, aero-acoustics and CFD. In 2000, he joined the NVH (Noise, vibration, and harshness) department of Renault, where he was responsible for the acoustic performance of Renault vehicles, developing new methodologies for NVH.
For 10 years he was the Expert Leader for numerical modelling and simulation at Renault, responsible for CAE, system modelling and support for decision making. During recent years he has developed new concepts, strategies and methods for performing numerical modelling and simulation for complex systems.
He is a member of the NAFEMS-INCOSE System Modeling and Simulation Working Group and Chair of FISITA Digitalisation Working Group.
